1. LOCK YOUR MOTORCYCLE in an area where there are other motorcycles.
  2. DO NOT LOCK your motorcycle in the same location all the time.
  3. BEWARE OF LOCKING your motorcycle to items that can be easily cut such as a wooden post or chain link fence.
  4. IF USING A KRYPTONITE disc lock on your front or rear rotor, use a Kryptonite reminder cable to prevent riding away with the lock still engaged.
  5. IF USING A DISC LOCK and your motorcycle does not have an exposed rotor,  use a shackle disc lock to capture the rear wheel’s chain sprocket.
  6. ALWAYS LOCK ACCESSORIES and components that can be easily removed (i.e. helmets, jackets, etc).
  7. ALWAYS LOCK YOUR MOTORCYCLE.  A garage or driveway can be just as vulnerable as when on the road traveling.

Use of a disc lock can help prevent roll away theft. When using a pin-style disc lock, place the pin through a hole in the rotor. When using a shackle style disc lock, place the shackle towards the center of the disc brake. When locking a motorcycle with non-disc style brakes, like a drum brake, use a u-lock to capture the rotor.

When using your primary lock, whether it be a chain or u-lock, it’s important to capture both the immovable object, and the frame of the motorcycle.

For maximum protection, Kryptonite recommends using two locks: a disc lock, to prevent roll away theft, as well as a chain or u-lock that is fixed to an immovable object to prevent lift away theft. Make sure the chain or u-lock is capturing the frame of the motorcycle, as well as the immovable object.
